Skype has been revamped based on attributes from rivals namely Messenger and Snapchat. Featured is a revamp that makes camera availing with a single swipe from the chats.

This tweaking of Skype has been for over a year and it is the latest update ever since video sharing which launched a decade back. It should not be considered as a rapidly paced cloning venture.

The revamp is related to transitory impartment of its features along with Stories and other camera enthralling features. It also features better impartment of info among the closely connected family and friends.

Further, it is launching its own bots and chat options to compete with Facebook Messenger.

Skpe’s modification of Stories

The latest version of Skype features the user to perform a swipe to access the camera where a video or photo is taken and they are integrated with content similar to other apps. These videos and photos can be shared with others in group chat or added to a feature by name Highlights.

To access camera the user must swipe from the right of the main screen and it is vice versa for Highlights the latter which is based on Stories.

Yet, Skype has modified the Highlights aspect based on Stories considerably

It is present for a week rather than a day and they are not transmitted to all corners of the Skype network. They opt for a Twitter-like trait where users who follow the Highlights of a particular user can avail the posts.

The Highlights can be shared with a single person or groups which encourage the recipient base to follow the Highlights if they have not hitherto. The aspect of spamming is eliminated.

Highlight Followers can respond to the posts similar to how an emoji is used with respect to a Skype post. Skype has done this based on the Facebook factors lie thumbs up, heart and various emoji features. Private responses are also shared in the chat.

Bots & Add-ins

The next feature to be rolled out is an advancement of Skype’s bots and add-ins to facilitate interaction with Microsoft’s Cortana or the brand new Scoop.

Add-ins are generated when bots are incorporated in a chat. Here the user can call using the bot directly from the chat.

Cortana provides recommendations encompassing quick responses like  “LOL” or “cant wait”  or some others related to the conversations. Scoop provides one-on-one chat with edited news story suggestions .

The demo by Microsoft indicates several bots and add-ins encompassing Cortana, MSN Weather and the such. It has to be noted that Cortana wont debut until June in the U.S.

Group Chats and more

Although these Highlights and add-ins are typically new features, this is just the tip of the iceberg related to the features in the remodified Skype.

User base can customize the app theme with their desired colors, respond to chats and video calls using emoticons and the such. Further, during video calls the user can enter messages as well.

Video chats are going to have a major upheaval to be compatible with other interactions like playing games and watching videos together from streaming services. YouTube will be the first related to this co watching and Skype is researching with other streaming services for integrations.

The revamped Skype is rolled out to launch today for Android and will be featured for iOS users in a month’s time.

Platforms of the desktop like Windows, Mac and the such will be integrated with new attributes this summer alongside Xbox.
