Birdwatching Places in Goa

Goa, the land of bachelor party is not just about beach and booze alone. You should know that Goa is lot more than that. Goa is rich with natural beauty, historic sites and most importantly, a colorful lifestyle. Visit the unexplored jungle regions to spot a few vibrant colored unique birds. As a part of my birdwatching resolution, I took an exclusive trip to Goa, just for spotting a few birds. Here are a few destinations, which I chose in Goa during my vacation for spotting birds.

Carambolim Lake

Located closer to Karmali railway station, visit Carambolim Lake for a quiet time and spotting numerous birds. Perch on the edge of the lake, you can find numerous colorful birds. The best way to spot these birds are by watching them from the fields around the lake. Remember that those are privately owned fields and you need permission to step inside them.

Curtorim village and Maina village

These villages have lush coconut grooves, long fields and a thick-green backdrop of hills. Thanks to the typical tropical climate, the villages are quite a heaven for birds. There is no specific spot in the villages to find birds. You need to trek through the village, explore the region and find the birds.

Goa University Campus

This university is built on a large plateau. Walk to the back of the university to spot many birds. Do you want to spot colorful birds in flocks? Look around to spot any bare trees with no or less leaves. You will find your winged-friends.

Dr. Salim Ali bird sanctuary

This is the iconic destinations for birdwatching. This sanctuary has its place in numerous India tour packages for birdwatching. Take a boat ride early in the morning and spot as many birds as possible. You can also choose to take a ride on River Mandovi to enjoy spotting many birds.

Moira backwaters

The backwaters are not easily accessible. Located between Moira and Uccasaim, you need to trek for a few hours to reach this spot. Thus, you will be far away from hassles of Goa to be a part of the bird paradise.

Apart from these, there are numerous other destinations in Goa for birdwatching like Soccorro plateau, Pilerne plateau, Verna plateau, Divarisland, BhagwanMahavir wildlife sanctuary, Merces plateau and others.

Best time to birdwatching in Goa

If you are looking for spotting numerous local and migration birds, you ought to visit between October and May. Stick with early mornings from 6 to 10 am to spots many local and migration birds. If you are looking for spotting a few butterflies too, it is better to shift your vacation to August to October.If you are taking an India tour packages  from  Goa between June and May, you can spot numerous colorful local birds. Spotting migration birds will be impossible between June and October.
